Disability Rights

Today, SB26-150 was officially signed into law! Watch here. Apologies for the video quality -- it was taken on a crowded moving bus -- a first according to Gov Polis!

This was not an easy bill to pass. Senator Ball himself acknowledged that it took persistence, difficult conversations, and determined advocacy to get it across the finish line. We are grateful for his partnership and leadership throughout the process in collaboration with co-sponsors Senator Jodeh, and Reps Jackson and Froelich.

We are especially proud that the bill includes an independent paratransit study with explicit requirements and accountability measures because those details matter to riders whose lives depend on these services every single day.

ADAPT fought hard for every word of those provisions. This victory belongs to every rider, testifier, caller, email writer, and person who refused to accept that inaccessible transportation is “just the way it is.”

Today proves something important: our voices matter, our experiences matter, and our movement is powerful.

The work is not over — but today is a very good day.
